Abstract
This short chapter is for parents and patients with complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS), and is written in a language that families should be able to understand. It provides the background to the underlying medical problem as well as discuss the issues patients and families want to know about: how did it happen, how is it diagnosed, what surgery is required and why, how can we learn to deal with it, and who else can we speak to? First published in 1997 as a booklet, it remains highly sought-after, and this book has enabled us to make it available to a wider audience, where we hope it will be useful.
