Abstract
When a baby is born with ambiguous genitalia, there are huge stresses put on the parents and extended family, many of which persist for many years. This chapter describes the use of a semi-structured interview framework developed and used by the author for many years. An audit of the use of this structured interview in 70 families revealed that the need to retell or delay announcing the baby’s gender to friends and community puts significant stress on the parents, particularly the m years other.
