    Der englische Begriff Chunk bedeutet Brocken oder Klumpen, im vorliegenden Kontext mit „Merkeinheit“ übersetzt [7]. Eine solche Merkeinheit kann auf unterschiedlichem Aggregationsniveau liegen. So kann ein Chunk ein einzelnes Zeichen aber auch eine Zusammenfassung vieler Zeichen zu einem Superzeichen bedeuten, das als Einheit behandelt wird.
