Abstract
We know the importance of information retrieval associated with the modern world organizations. Two concepts which play a crucial role in saving the organization from losing superfluous time and cost are the well managed Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) process and the E-discovery process. The paper proposes a relationship between the Information Lifecycle Management and the E-discovery. Today organizations keep on encountering legal issues which require information retrieval. Technologies related to information retrieval play a critical role in the process. The cost and time are of utmost importance to the organizations. Therefore, there is a need to integrate ILM and E-discovery to reduce the overall cost of information maintenance in an organization. This paper aims at optimizing the E-discovery process to make it more productive and rewarding. The paper also proposes a mapping of the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) associated with ILM and E-discovery. It also states the importance of rights and duties which are necessary to be considered in the process of information flow.
