Introduction

Due to the constant development of expert systems, broadening of the application area of decision support algorithms, and together with the appearance of new organizational structures, which were defined in world literature as knowledgebase organization, more and more often we come across the concept of competence in the context of information systems.

Processing competences in the environment of information systems requires preparing a set of algorithms and procedures. The first step is to treat competence as a structure which allows for competence description in connection to a specific task and a personalized dimension. In this chapter to approaches to modeling competence structure were proposed. The first one bases on using ontologies and concentrates on modeling the knowledge included in the competence. The second one uses the apparatus of competence theory, what allows for modeling the strengths of relations that occur between individual parts of the competence.
