Abstract
Since its earliest appearance, gold has fascinated virtually every culture on Earth. Its reflected light, perpetual luster, unfading and invariable distinctiveness, and its connotation linked to the sun’s eternity have until today been most likely at the quintessence of its symbolic value. “The sun itself, it is of pure gold” (Goethe, Faust II).
