Abstract

In the paper we propose a method for multiresolution jitter analysis dedicated to network transmissions where limited resources or heavy workload of devices are common situations. The concept is based on classical Gaussian pyramid – low-pass filtering and subsampling adopted to the specific application by using rectangular filtering and iterative incremental computation of incoming packet measures. The paper demonstrates computational algorithm and its computational complexity analysis for optimistic average and pessimistic scenario. Finally, possible applications of the proposal to network traffic and transmission analysis are demonstrated.
