Abstract
Although infant abduction in pediatric area of hospitals happens at a low probability normally overlooked, its impact can be devastating for families and healthcare staff. To improve infant security in hospitals, we have developed an active RFID based system that tracks the body temporature of new-borns. The system can measure body temporature through the near-infrared sensor attached to baby’s wrist and estimate the location of the subject through the signal strengthen received by RFID readers network. It documents security records for the patients in a database and reports abnormal situation with text, warning lamp signal or alarm. We design the database in a in a way compatiable with the general hospital information system.
