Abstract
This paper presents the assessment of a new applicator for RF thermokeratoplasty based on a circular electrode and a microkeratome as that used in refractive surgery. The experimental setup was based on excised porcine eyes, on which we assessed the histology of the thermal lesions, and the electrical impedance progress during the heating. The results suggest that an electrode with 0.2 mm thickness along with the suction system of the microkeratome allows, under some specific protocols of delivering RF power, creating uniform circular lesions with a suitable depth (near 50% of the corneal thickness).
