Abstract
In this chapter, we discuss briefly main notions: decision trees, rules, complete systems of decision rules, tests and reducts for problems and decision tables.
After that we concentrate on consideration of simple examples from different areas of applications: fault diagnosis, computational geometry, pattern recognition, discrete optimization and analysis of experimental data.
These examples allow us to clarify relationships between problems and corresponding decision tables, and to hint at tools required for analysis of decision tables.
The chapter contains four sections. In Sect. 1.1 main notions connected with problems are discussed. Section 1.2 is devoted to the consideration of main notions connected with decision tables. Section 1.3 contains seven examples, and Sect. 1.4 includes conclusions.
