Zusammenfassung

Häufigkeit Chronische Unterbauchschmerzen, auch »chronic pelvic pain syndrome« (CPPS), sind ein sehr häufig beobachtetes Krankheitsbild in der Gynäkologie. Epidemiologische Untersuchungen aus den USA zeigen, dass bis zu 15% der Frauen zwischen 18 und 50 Jahren unter chronischen Unterbauchschmerzen leiden. Damit stellt das chronische Unterbauchschmerzsyndrom ein Problem dar, das sowohl erhebliche medizinische Kosten verursacht als auch die Lebensqualität der betroffenen Patientinnen deutlich einschränkt. 10% der ambulanten Patientinnen suchen ihren Frauenarzt wegen Unterbauchschmerzen auf, etwa 20% der Laparoskopien und 10% der Hysterektomien in den USA werden aufgrund chronischer Unterbauchschmerzen durchgeführt.
