Precise event detection in underwater wireless sensor network requires the position information of the detecting sensor nodes. Manual positioning of nodes in such a network is highly infeasible. The popular dive and rise method used in underwater sensor network contributes to the inaccuracies in position estimation by localization methods. Therefore, localization techniques need to have the provision for error correction to improve the accuracy of position estimations. This paper presents a range-free localization algorithm using dive and rise with anchor nodes of varying communication range. The proposed approach uses different error correction methods based on geometric principles to improve upon the accuracy. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed error correction methods on the estimated positions.
