Abstract

Crystallography is the science of the geometry and symmetry of the external forms as well as the internal structure of crystals. The first crystals that became available for such studies were, of course, the mineral crystals. The initial observations were made by mineralogists. Looking at the external forms of crystals, a number of simple but fundamental laws were noted.
