Abstract

It was seen in Chap. 1 that solid state physics is all about the behaviour of crystals. According to Pfann [1], the single crystal is the sine qua non of the experiment. It is appropriate that a study of solid state physics should begin with a study of the experimental methods and the theoretical models of crystal growth. A detailed discussion of the former is given by Gilman [2], Brice [3] and Tarjan and Matrai [4 and of the latter by Ohara and Reid [5] and Sangwal [6].
