Abstract

This chapter is concerned with the extension of the asymptotic theory of stellar oscillations beyond the case of a non-rotating, non-magnetic spherically symmetric star. It is shown that ray models that describe propagating waves in the short-wavelength limit provide a natural framework for this extension. The basic tools to construct an asymptotic theory from a ray model and some general results obtained in the context of quantum physics are first described. Then, a recent application to the high-frequency acoustic modes of rapidly rotating stars is presented.
