Abstract

The main aim of this article is to present a methodology for the continuing education of teachers in the area of Cartography, based on the formation of study groups arranged by tutors at the Center of Continuing Education for Mathematics, Science and Environment at São Paulo State University (CECEMCA/UNESP). The paper also aims to share some information about the Cartography activities related to the preparation of sketch maps, led by a teacher who attended the Continuing Education Course. In the activity related to the sketch maps of the way to school, three pieces of work were selected to illustrate the diversity of representation by the pupils, in accordance with their previous experiences and their level of cognitive maturity. The results of the study highlighted the fact that teachers, in general, find it difficult to prepare records, which limits their effectiveness and hinders the transformation of the practical work in the classroom.
