Zusammenfassung

Weihrauch gehört zu den ältesten pflanzlichen Präparationen, die über Jahrhunderte zur Bekämpfung entzündlicher Erkrankungen eingesetzt wurden. In Europa war Weihrauch bis zum Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts ein bedeutender Bestandteil der Pharmacopoeia der in dieser Zeit üblichen pflanzlichen Medizin. In der chinesischen, der nordafrikanischen und der klassischen indischen „ayurvedischen“ Medizin ist Weihrauch bis zum heutigen Tage noch immer ein wesentlicher Bestandteil. Synonym mit der Bezeichnung „Weihrauch“ werden Begriffe wie Olibanum und Salai guggal verwandt [9].
