Zusammenfassung
Der Zoologe Friedrich Barth vom Biozentrum der Universität Wien hat ein Forscherleben lang Physiologie und Verhalten der großen Spinne Cupiennius salei studiert und ist dabei in vielfacher Weise mit ihren Sinnesorganen und ihrer Fähigkeit, Umweltreize aufzunehmen, in Berührung gekommen. Im Englischen klingt das spitzer: „Sensors and Sensing“. Mit einer so betitelten Einführung wurde eine Tagung „Sensors and Sensing in the natural and fabricated worlds“ im Juni 2000 in Pascoli/Italien eröffnet. Nichts Typischeres und Tiefergreifendes als dieses könnte dem Buchabschnitt über sensorische Mechanismen vorangestellt werden.
