Zusammenfassung
Nieren sind die primären adulten Exkretionsorgane. Andere Organe, die zur Beseitigung von Stoffwechselendprodukten aus dem Körper beitragen können, sind die Kiemen, die Lungen, die Haut, Teile des Verdauungssystems und verschiedene Salzdrüsen. Zusammen übernehmen diese Organe zwei miteinander in Verbindung stehende und essentiell wichtige Funktionen:

• Sie entfernen die stickstoffhaltigen Stoffwechselendprodukte des Proteinstoffwechsels und viele andere schädliche Substanzen.

• Sie eliminieren kontrollierte Mengen von Wasser und Salzen und halten so das innere Milieu innerhalb enger Grenzwerte, die für das Leben wichtig sind.
