Zusammenfassung
Fachkräfte, die mit Säuglingen und Kleinkindern arbeiten, bestätigen die sensorisch-integrativen Prinzipien und ihre praktische Anwendung weitgehend (Stallings-Sahler 1998).In diesem Kapitel wird die Anwendung der SI bei dieser Gruppe von Kindern dargestellt. Ausgangspunkt sind Überlegungen darüber, welche einzigartigen Herausforderungen und Gelegenheiten das Säuglings-und Kleinkindalter bietet. Im zweiten Abschnitt wird ein Modell zum Verständnis des frühkindlichen Verhaltens unter sensorisch-integrativer und ent-wicklungsorientierter Perspektive vorgestellt. Der Schwerpunkt des Modells liegt auf dem Zusammenspiel zwischen sensorischer Responsivität und Verhaltensorganisation bei Säuglingen und Kleinkindern. Im dritten Abschnitt dieses Kapitels wird ein Gerüst für die Befundung von Säuglingen und Kleinkindern präsentiert. Um ein ganzheitliches Bild vom Verhalten des Kindes im familiären Kontext zu erhalten, sollten quantitative und qualitative Informationen kombiniert werden. Abschließend werden Interventionsprinzipien besprochen, die sich aus der Theorie der Sensorischen Integration ergeben. Es wird ein dreistufiger Interventionsansatz vorgestellt, der sowohl die Bedürfnisse des Kindes als auch den Einfluss der sozialen und physikalischen Umwelt auf die Verhaltenskompetenz des Kindes berücksichtigt.
