Abstract

From a biometrical viewpoint, fetal brain development is gradual and steady. The brain is proportionally very voluminous in the embryo and accounts for 1/10-1/7 of the body weight during the last trimester of pregnancy, whereas it only represents 1/50 of an adult’s weight. The cerebellum, on the contrary, represents 1/25 of the brain’s weight in newborns vs 1/15-1/10 for adults [51].
