Screening of cerebral abnormalities is the main field of investigation of fetal MRI [23–49]. However, unlike ultrasonography, fetal MRI is currently not a routine examination in antenatal diagnosis. In our antenatal diagnosis reference centre, the indications for fetal MRI examinations are decided during our weekly multidisciplinary staff meetings. In view of establishing standards, we selected 225 examination results concerning fetuses aged from 22 to 38 weeks of gestation among the 600 fetal cerebral MRI examinations our institution has carried out from 1991 to 2000. Gestational age was determined in each case by a precocious sonography at 12 weeks of gestation.
