Zusammenfassung

In einem Bericht aus dem 8. Jahrhundert wird die Adernvergilbung bei Eupatorium chinense erwähnt. Über schwere Ernteschäden an Kulturpflanzen wie Rüben, Kassava und Mais wird seit über 100 Jahren berichtet. Diese Erkrankungen werden durch Geminiviren verursacht. Aber erst in den 1970er-Jahren konnten die Viren, die diese Krankheiten auslösen, nachgewiesen und näher charakterisiert werden (Buck 1999).
