Zusammenfassung
Bei der Sicherung der Atemwege ist der endotracheal platzierte Tubus nach wie vor der anerkannte Goldstandard in Anästhesie, Intensiv- und Notfallmedizin. Zwar ist bei einem sehr hohen Prozentsatz der Patienten eine endotracheale Intubation mittels konventioneller Laryngoskopie möglich, doch treten immer wieder bei Patienten Schwierigkeiten in der Atemwegssicherung auf. Unabhängig davon, ob die Schwierigkeiten vorhersehbar sind — aufgrund von anamnestischen oder anatomischen Gegebenheiten — oder unerwartet auftreten, müssen sie durch die Anwendung von Alternativtechniken gelöst werden, um schweren Schaden von Leib und Leben des Patienten abzuwenden.
