Abstract
Subshrubs to shrubs with simple and glandular hairs. Leaves simple, entire, opposite, subopposite, fasciculate on short shoots; stipules absent. Flowers bisexual, solitary, on short shoots from axils of stem leaves, sessile, but with a pedicel-like axis below bracts. Bracts and prophylls present, prophylls membranous, conspicuous, ± free or joined. Calyx absent or reduced to disc-like rim. Corolla gamopetalous, tubular, infundibuliform, 5-lobed. Stamens 4, didynamous, inserted on corolla tube, filaments pilose, anther thecae 2, opening longitudinally. Style simple, curved, stigma lingulate or spathulate. Ovary superior, compressed, 1-2-locular, ovules 2-10 on long funiculi. Placentation axile or parietal. Fruit capsular or schizocarpic, compressed, discoid. Seeds without endosperm.
