Evolvable Computational Machines

We have been interested in the previous chapters in the design of adaptive systems and in the design methodology for the (semi-automatic) development of these systems.We showed that the evolvable component could be a useful tool for the designers of evolvable hardware. In fact we dealt with an engineering approach. In this chapter we will change our viewpoint. The adaptive and evolvable devices will be considered as computational machines (CM). Therefore, the methods of theoretical computer science will be employed in order to define these machines formally and to investigate their properties.
