Abstract

It is not difficult to find a good survey on evolutionary algorithms in the literature; for instance Bentley’s chapter [11], Back’s [6], Eiben’s [41] or Tomassini’s papers [194,195] are excellent. Furthermore, plenty of bookd have been published on this topic. The aim of this chapter is to summarize the basic ideas that will be needed in the following chapters. In particular, evolutionary algorithms will be employed for the design.
