Zusammenfassung
Bis gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts war der Kaiserschnitt eine Notmaßnahme zur Rettung der Mutter und stets eine tödliche Bedrohung von Mutter und Kind. Die Letalität der Mutter lag bei 60-100%. Die sinkende maternale Sectiomortalität hat neben den medizinischen, gesellschaftlichen und sozioökonomischen Faktoren eine neue Einstellung zur Sectioindikation entstehen lassen, die im Rahmen der Risiko-Güterabwägung zwischen vaginal-operativem und abdominalem Entbindungsweg zunehmend für den Letzteren entscheiden lässt.
