Zusammenfassung

Mit kongenitalen Defekten muss bei 3–5 % der Geburten gerechnet werden. Fehlbildungen stehen mit 3% an der Spitze, gefolgt von monogenen Erbleiden (1,4%) und chromosomalen Aberrationen (0,6%). Fehlbildungen sind heute in entwickelten Ländern für 20–25 % der perinatalenTodesfälle verantwortlich. Eine primäre Prävention kann nur in beschränktem Umfang erfolgen, da die Ätiologie bei den meisten Fehlbildungen unbekannt ist. Eine sekundäre Prävention im Sinne einer Therapie oder eines Schwangerschaftsabbruchs ist bei frühzeitigem Erkennen der Fehlbildungen möglich.
