Zusammenfassung
Patienten mit Typ-1-Diabetes leiden an einem absoluten Insulinmangel. Ihre Prognose war bis zur Einführung von Insulin als Therapeutikum infaust, die Lebenserwartung kurz. Langzeitkomplikationen des Typ-1-Diabetes waren deshalb unbekannt. Dieses Bild hat sich inzwischen dramatisch gewandelt.
