Zusammenfassung
Sowohl der Typ-1-als auch der Typ-2-Diabetes entstehen teilweise auf einer genetischen Grundlage; diese spielt jedoch für die Entstehung eines Typ-2-Diabetes eine sehr viel größere Rolle als für den Typ-1-Diabetes. Dies zeigt sich altersabhängig zum einen an der unterschiedlichen Prävalenz in verschiedenen ethnischen Gruppen, zum anderen an der familiären Häufung des Typ-2-Diabetes und der hohen Konkordanzrate von 35–90% bei monozygoten Zwillingen (▸ s. Kap. 1).
