Zusammenfassung

Diabetes mellitus ist der Sammelbegriff für verschiedene Stoffwechselstörungen, die mit einer chronischen Hyperglykämie und mit dem Risiko für Schäden und Funktionsstörungen verschiedener Organe, insbesondere der Augen, Nieren, Nerven, des Herzens und der Blutgefäße verbunden sind. Ursache ist entweder eine gestörte Insulinsekretion oder eine gestörte Insulinwirkung oder auch beides.
