Corticosteroide werden ganz überwiegend als Glucocorticoide zur Entzündungshemmung und Immunsuppression eingesetzt, während die Hormonsubstitution mit dem Nebennierenrindenhormon Cortisol und dem Mineralo-corticoid Fludrocortison nur einen sehr kleinen Teil der Verordnungen betrifft.
