Zusammenfassung

Hormone der Hypophyse und des Hypothalamus sind die zentralen Steuerungshormone für endokrine Drüsen und somatische Körperfunktionen. So regeln einige Hypophysenhormone die periphere Hormonproduktion in Schilddrüse, Nebennierenrinde und Gonaden, andere steigern Wachstum, Laktation, peripheren Gefäßtonus und renale Wasserrückresorption. Die Steuerung der hypophysären Hormonfreisetzung erfolgt einerseits zentral durch die übergeordneten Releasinghormone und Hemmstoffe des Hypothalamus, andererseits bei einigen Hypophysenhormonen durch die peripheren Hormone der endokrinen Drüsen über eine inhibitorische Feedbackregulation.
