Abstract
The history of total hip arthroplasty (THA) in the former USSR was led by a single orthopaedic surgeon, namely, Professor K. M. Sivash. It was the fi rst hip implant made from titanium and it was designed for cementless implantation. DePuy established an Instructional Course coupled with an Integrated Extensive Visitation for orthopaedic surgeons in St. Petersburg, Russia. The course has three modules and aims to spread knowledge and expertise on THA, both in theory and practice. This professional education programme improved the standards on THA in different parts of Russia.
