Abstract
Newborns have despite of low clotting factors and an in vitro poor platelet function a good functioning hemostasis. The reason for that is still not completely clear. Platelet counts of healthy neonates are similar to those of normal adults, but their platelets react hyporesponsively to a variety of physiological agonists, resulting in decreased platelet activation and aggregation [1–4].
