Abstract
This abstract will give an insight about the implementation of the 42V-PowerNet with emphasis on the impact and the prevention of electrical overloads or cable fires on wiring safety.
After we look at the conventional way of fusing the wiring harness in cars with thermal fuses and semiconductor drivers, we will show the upcoming challenges with the introduction of the dual voltage power network. Here we concentrate on fusing issues coming up in a dual voltage network since this seems to be the first step towards bringing 42 V into the motor car, since it will be impossible to adapt all necessary components at the same time to the higher voltage.
In connection we will show the risks arising through arcs, which can occur in DC networks with higher voltage. Some theory behind the arc and possible ways of dealing with it will be shown.
The mentioned factors will point out the requirements needed to fulfill the functions of the future PowerNet.
