Zusammenfassung

Fluoreszein ist einer der stärksten künstlichen Farbstoffe. Es wurde erstmals 1871 von Adolf von Baeyer, einem deutschen Chemiker, dem 1906 den Nobelpreis für Chemie für die Entwicklung organischer Farbstoffe verliehen wurde, synthetisiert. Eine Anreicherung von Fluoreszein in der Vorderkammer nach intravenöser Injektion des Farbstoffs wurde erstmals von Paul Ehrlich im Jahre 1882 beschrieben. Weitere Meilensteine waren die Beschreibung einer Fluoreszein-Leckage in chorioretinischen Herden durch Burk 1910 sowie 1955 die Anreicherung in Aderhauttumoren nach intravenöser Injektion durch MacLean und Maumenee.
