Abstract
The representation of information in electronic form, its storage in database systems and the retrieval of information from such databases are one of the most important fields in computer-science. Knowledge representation, intelligent content management, and multimedia information retrieval are modern expressions of current research fields. However, basics from “classical” information retrieval (IR) like indexing, retrieval models, and retrieval evaluation are still valid and remain important concepts.
