Abstract
Grid computing is a large dynamic network where data can be copied anywhere in Storage Element (SE) located somewhere in the network. Having SE at some number of location will increase the communication cost. Therefore having the best number of SE is one of the issues in grid. In this paper, we introduced a new protocol, named Dual Quorum Replication (DQR) for data replica control protocol for a large dynamic network by using quorum techniques to improve communication cost because quorum techniques reduce the number of copies involved in reading or writing data. The protocol of DQR replicates data for large dynamic network such as grid network by putting the protocol in two connected quorum and access consistent data by ensuring the quorum not to have a nonempty intersection quorum. To evaluate our protocol, we developed a simulation model in Java. Our result proved that DQR improves the performance of the communication cost compare to the latest replica control protocol named Enhanced Diagonal Data Replication using 2D Mesh (EDR2M).
