Abstract
In the early days of TV, there was one source of video programs coming into the home: the public broadcast TV. Today, there are multiple sources of video content for the home. People have access to a huge variety of programming choices though their coaxial cable, satellite dish, DVD, or broadband connection. There are mainly four means of carrying copyrighted video to the home: Broadcast networks, broadband networks, mobile networks, and pre-recorded media.

Notes
- 1.
In 2006, Luxembourg was the first country to end analog TV. Many European countries have already followed. Since 2009, it has already been the case in the US. The US was the first non-European country to perform the switchover.
- 2.
Terrestrial transmission has limited range. Any physical obstacle blocks the terrestrial signal.
- 3.
Cable transmission is bidirectional. The downstream link delivers data to the home whereas the upstream link carries data from the home to the cable head end.
