Abstract

The trend towards a globalized economy leads to an increasing pressure of competition. Many companies face this competition by trying to better fulfill the needs of their customers. To accomplish this goal, they offer a higher number of product variants and shorten delivery times. Both changes require elaborate production planning systems. One can distinguish long-term, mediumterm and short-term production planning. Lot-sizing and scheduling are an integral part of short-term production planning.
