Zusammenfassung

Hinsichtlich der zukünftigen Entwicklung des Software-Marktes sind verschiedene Szenarien denkbar. OSS könnte langfristig zahlreiche Marktsegmente dominieren; umgekehrt ist auch nicht auszuschließen, dass die weitere Ausbreitung von OSS stark eingeschränkt wird, beispielsweise durch DRM und Software-Patente (vgl. Kapitel 6.2). Am wahrscheinlichsten erscheint ein Szenario zwischen diesen beiden Extremen, das keine Dominanz, aber durchaus eine weitergehende Ausbreitung von OSS impliziert.
