Zusammenfassung

Motivation gibt Antwort auf die Frage nach dem »Warum« bzw. dem »Wozu« menschlichen Verhaltens, d. h., es werden damit die Ursachen bzw. die Ziele des Verhaltens erklärt. Mit dem Konzept Motivation kann allerdings nicht Verhalten schlechthin erklärt werden – Verhalten ist ein Merkmal des Lebens, das erst im Tode endet -, vielmehr wird damit wissenschaftlich die Richtung, Intensität und Ausdauer menschlichen Verhaltens erklärt (Thomae, 1965; vgl. zum Folgenden Nerdinger, 2006).
