Zusammenfassung

Die Chronobiologie ist eine Wissenschaft , die erst seit der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts existiert und sich mit der Veränderung des Organismus als Funktion der Zeit beschäft igt. Viele dieser Veränderungen sind zyklisch wiederkehrend, weshalb im Zusammenhang mit der Chronobiologie häufig auch von biologischen Rhythmen gesprochen wird. Auf unterschiedlichsten Ebenen des Organismus können diese biologischen Rhythmen beobachten werden, von der Genexpression bis schließlich hin zum Verhalten. Dies mag mit ein Grund sein, weshalb nur selten zuvor ein Wissenschaft sbereich dermaßen interdisziplinär erforscht wurde. In den Anfängen der chronobiologischen Forschung waren insbesondere Verhaltensforscher damit beschäft igt, Sinn und Zweck solcher Rhythmen zu erkunden. Die Chronobiologie weckte zudem das Interesse von Physiologen, Endokrinologen, Immunologen, da schnell spezifische Rhythmen unterschiedlichster Parameter gefunden wurden. In jüngerer Zeit sind Forschungsgruppen aus den Bereichen der Molekularbiologie, den Neurowissenschaft en sowie der Genetik hinzugekommen. Auch bietet die Chronobiologie Stoff für Mathematiker und Neuroinformatiker, die nichts unversucht lassen, um solche Rhythmen in schlüssigen Formeln zu beschreiben oder mittels neuster Technik nachzubilden.
