Zusammenfassung

Nach Jahrzehnten intensiver interdisziplinärer Forschung und Entwicklung und ersten Studien des Humaneinsatzes haben heute mechanische Pumpsysteme zur Unterstützung oder zum Ersatz des versagenden Herzens (Ventricular Assist Devices, VAD, bzw. Total Artificial Heart, TAH) ihren festen Platz in der Behandlung des terminalen Herzversagens gefunden.
