Zusammenfassung

Revision surgery for failed TKA has a long tradition in Europe and goes back to the early days of knee joint replacement. At that time, hinge implants were relatively popular in Europe whereas surgeons in North America were focussing on less constrained condylar designs. The failures of these first generation hinge implants have forced European surgeons from the beginning to address the severe osseous and soft tissue problems associated with these prostheses.
