Abstract

Over the last 50 years, surgeons have gained a greater appreciation for the menisci as integral components for normal knee function. Many orthopedic surgeons prefer to repair rather than excise a damaged meniscus whenever possible. Knot-end techniques; horizontal, vertical and oblique sutures have been used in meniscal repair. Several basic research studies have evaluated the structural properties of meniscal repair constructs. These studies generally have used a similar testing methodology which is distraction testing. Future studies must be conducted using in vivo conditions.
