Optimization of Membership Functions for an Incremental Fuzzy PD Control Based on Genetic Algorithms

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Studies in Computational Intelligence ((SCI,volume 318))

Abstract

This paper proposes the optimization of an incremental fuzzy PD controller based on a genetic algorithm, which optimizes the parameters of membership functions of the inputs and outputs. The multiobjective GA is considered because it evaluates three characteristics of the controller (steady state error, overshoot and undershoot). The application of this controller is to regulate the engine speed of a direct current (DC) motor. A methodology to test and validate this controller through Matlab-Simulink is presented.
