Abstract
For a thorough characterization of processes resulting from the photoexcitation of organic π-conjugated molecules, we should focus on systems capable of energy transfer reactions. In such, the absorption of light and the subsequent deactivation of the excited state transfers excited state energy to an acceptor moiety rather than resulting in the generation of radical ion pairs. Understanding these processes helps in the identification of the light-harvesting properties of the π-conjugated oligomers, referred to as molecular wires.
